Mini Fridge
What is Mini Fridge?
Mini Fridge is our second stage series of productions that are a little less traditional. Programming includes story concerts, drag shows, burlesque, and staged readings.

Our Mini Fridge Events are typically one night only, so make sure to keep an eye on what's up next!

AFABulous
AFABulous combines fierce drag performances and epic storytelling (supported by community partnerships with So Say We All and the House of Barr) to help our audience get to know San Diego’s queer nightlife entertainers and learn more about what’s out there in our drag community beyond cis-male drag queens. Each performer performs one drag number of their choice and a short personal narrative story centered around this year’s theme: “My Body, My Drag”, as well as answering audience-submitted questions throughout the show! Funny, poignant, educational, or all three, AFABulous is an evening of truly unique storytelling.
Step Two (February 12th, 7:30pm)
The ten finalists' scenes have been performed anonymously at the City Heights Performance Annex. The audience voted on which play they want to see more of.
Step Three (March to October)
It's play development time! The writer of the winning script will receive support from Loud Fridge to work on their play over the year. This will include:
-
A stipend of $1000 so that the writer can dedicate more time to their craft
-
A play writing mentor from the Loud Fridge community
-
Workshops with actors to read, discuss, and make any tweaks
Step Four (November)
The year will culminate in a reading of the completed script. Audiences will get to see a fully staged reading of the play after their little taster in February.
FAQ
Who can apply?
Priority will be given to playwrights from San Diego County; however, anyone from Southern California is encouraged to submit!
How much of the play do I need to have written?
All we need is seven-minutes of the play to start. The point of NYND is to take the play through as much of the writing process as possible. Even if you only have one scene, send us what you've got!
I have a finished play, can I submit?
New Year, New Draft is specifically targeting unfinished plays; if you have a completed script that you want to share with us, please email us a copy so that we can consider it for future seasons.
Are there any other guidelines?
Submissions should be straight plays, not musicals.
I'm an actor; how can I take part in the readings or workshops?
Come to our open call in January or send us a self tape to be considered! You can find more information about our season auditions here.
